Dancing Meteorite 2023 event
The Grand Lake – Digersjön – stage perfomance.

Fiskars, Raasepori, from 20 to 31 May 2023.

I had the privilege of participating in the Dancing Meteorite Biennale in May 2023, both as an admirer and observer, and as one of the performers.

Fiskars Village has its own unique aura, and I think the Biennale beautifully used the surroundings and old buildings to deepen its poetic storytelling. Ulla-Maija Alanen’s captivating Sensing Water photo exhibition, and Erik Salvesen’s gravity-defying Medusa’s Raft add interesting new depths to the old granary building, where Annatuuli Saine’s Grand Lake - Digersjön was performed.

Saine’s performance was a meditation on loss and recovery, and the poetic diary entries were translated into weightless, wave-like movements that gently took the audience on a journey through deeply personal yet universally recognizable experiences and emotions, such as grief and glimpses of hope.

I had the joy of talking about the poetry of water together with the esteemed Risto Ahti; this encounter was only made possible by the Biennale’s ambitious multi-disciplinary approach to art and science. An unforgettable experience. Thank you for having me.

Petra Vallila, Poet

I had a pleasure to be an invited speaker/ commentary at Annatuuli’s multiart performance in Fiskars ‘Veden aika – Tanssiva meteoriitti’

the performance combined dance, literature, poetry and the stage layout in the old building of Fiskars created a magical intensity around the artist and the audience. the performance created a magical timebridge over the annual cycle of personal experience, feelings and emotions that Annatuuli had experienced when swimming in lake Degersjö regularly throughout different seasons. The discussion that followed, was focused on art, research and science on water and water ecosystems as well as the healing of nature and the importance of water environment for human wellbeing. Annatuuli’s performance created a concentrated platform for discussion of the topic and also allowed all invited researchers as well as the interested audience to discuss their reflections and get information of water research in Finland and elsewhere. For me personally this was a unique experience that allowed to look at water science from a different angle and take a deep dive to feelings that experiencing water environment stimulates in humans.

Thank you for this experience and opportunity!
